Detailed Itinerary for 5 Days Gorilla Trekking and Golden in Rwanda
DAY 1: Pick Up and Transfer to Ruhengeri.
On your first day with us according to this itinerary you will be met by our representative who will pick you up from the airport or your preferred location. You will be taken for a city tour, visiting the Rwanda genocide memorial grounds, some craft shops and your driver guide will give you some information on the culture and history of Rwanda. You will also have lunch depending on your time of arrival. After enjoying Kigali, you will then embark on a journey to your hotel nearer to Volcanoes National park the home of these endangered species to rest and prepare for the trek the next morning. This journey will be approximately 2 and a half hour from Kigali to Ruhengeri. Dinner will be at the hotel. Overnight at your lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Trek in Volcanoes National Park.
As early at 6am, you will be expected to be up for breakfast and ready to set off for the trek. Our guide will meet you after having your breakfast and your lunches packed and he will take you to Kinigi Headquarters where you are expected to be given a brief before starting the gorilla trek. This brief is done at 7am. You are given guidelines during this brief before you are allowed to start the trek. This gorilla trek can take to about 2 hours to half a day as it’s unpredictable. When you finally find the gorillas, you will have to maintain a 6 meters distance and you are allowed one hour to admire and take photos of the gorillas.
After the trek, you will have lunch and taken back to your hotel as the night before to relax and reminisce on the experience. Later, you will head out to Ibyi’wacu Village for Cultural Visit. Dinner and overnight will be at the same hotel as the night before.
Day 3: Bisoke Mount Hike
You will enjoy breakfast and set out for Mt. Bisoke hike which is part of volcanoes national park; home to Rwanda gorillas. On reaching the summit, you will discover a beautiful crater lake and the whole experience is overwhelming! Along the trail, you will discover a lot of birdlife and captivating scenery – the reason Rwanda is referred to as the “land of a thousand hills“.
After the hike, you will have your packed lunch and then head back to base where you will find your driver guide waiting for you. You will then transfer back to your lodge and spend the rest of the evening relaxing at leisure. If you wish to explore more of the park, you may have an optional visit to Musanze caves where you can take a tour of one of the oldest cave networks in Rwanda. Dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.
Day 4: Golden Monkey Trek
After an early morning breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for briefing and later enter the forest and hike while in search of the golden monkeys. Tracking the golden monkeys rewards views of other primates such as the black and white Colobus monkeys, Olive baboons among others. In the afternoon, you may opt for a guided nature walk to the twin lakes.
Day 5: Transfer Back to Kigali.
On this day you will have breakfast at your own pace but ensure to check out of the hotel in time. Our guide will be waiting to drive you back to Kigali International Airport or any location you will advise in Kigali
