Detailed Itinerary for 6 Days Rwanda Chimpanzee and Golden Monkey Trekking Safari
Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Pickup from your hotel in Kigali by our company representative/driver guide for a short tour of Kigali city where you will visit the Genocide Memorial center, Nyamirambo Women’s center and Kimironko market. Have lunch and transfer you to your hotel in Volcanoes National Park arriving Ruhengeri for dinner and overnight stay at your lodge.

Day 2: Golden Monkey Trekking Volcanoes NP Rwanda & Ibyi’wacu Village Tour
Wakeup to an early morning breakfast and report to the park headquarters for briefing and allocation of Gorilla trekking groups. Later, you will head into the cold and misty forested slopes of Virunga National Park for your Gorilla trek.
The trek can be anywhere between 2 to 6 hours depending on the movement of the Gorillas and upon finding them, you will be allowed 1 hour to see and take photos after which you exit the forest.
Meet your driver guide and transfer back to the lodge. If you feel strong, you will embark on a cultural tour at Iby’iwacu Village which is also known as the ‘Gorilla Guardians Village’. Get an opportunity to visit the former King’s palace and learn more about the rich Rwandan culture through dance and singing performances from the local intore dance troupe and also get a chance to dress in traditional Rwandan attires as part of your cultural experience. Retire back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Transfer to Nyungwe National Park
Wake up to a tasty breakfast, check out of your hotel and embark on your transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park with lunch en-route. Arrive in Nyungwe in the late afternoon and check into your hotel or lodge for dinner and overnight stay. Optional activities that you can do in the evening include visiting Gisakura tea estate or guided nature walk in the park.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking, Canopy walk and Transfer to Kigali.
Enjoy breakfast and go for briefing before entering the forest, searching for the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are the easy to spot, as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimp tracking usually takes about 4 hours or more depending on the location of the chimps.
After lunch, you will go on a walking trail that will take you to the Canopy Walk, a swing bridge 50 meters in length that is suspended from large trees. You will be able to see the amazing rainforest with a bird’s eye view, spotting wildlife moving about below you. You will then exit and connect to your hotel in Kigali for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Transfer to Akagera for game drive and afternoon Boat cruise
You will be met by your driver guide after breakfast for your transfer to Akagera national park where you will arrive in time to embark on a game drive in the park and later embark on the late afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see game like hippopotamuses, Crocodiles and many bird species that live around the lake and the surrounding swamps. Retire back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Early morning game drive (northern circuit) and transfer to Kigali.
Rise up early and go for a game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals which rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill. After the game drive, exist the park and head back to Kigali with a stopover for lunch en-route. Upon your arrival in Kigali, your driver guide will drop you off at a hotel of your choice or Kigali international airport as you will advise at the time of your booking.
