Detailed Itinerary for 5 Days Mikumi and Udzungwa Safari Tanzania
Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Mikumi National Park
Pick up from Dar es Salaam city center and you proceed to south of Dar es Salaam, along the Tanzania / Zambia Highway with picnic Lunch. Once in the park, enjoy an afternoon game drive of Mikumi National Park. Dinner and overnight at Camp Bastian.
With 3,230 square kilometers coverage Mikumi National Park is well-known park in Tanzania. The park is well-known for its population of elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras, elands, greater Kudu, wildebeest, roan and sable antelope. Predators include tree-climbing lions (which are in large number), leopards, wild hunting dogs and black-backed jackal. More than 300 species of birds have been recorded here including Eurasian migrants such as red billed ox pecker, marabou stork and lilac breasted roller.
Day 2: Full Day Game Drive in Mikumi National Park
With various wild game in Mikumi National Park like wild dogs, zebras, hyenas, elands, lions, wildebeests, crocodiles and so much more, head out for a full day game drive in the park. Also look out for the over 300 bird species observed in the park. Your game drive is punctuated with a lunch stop enjoyed over a picnic. Chase the sunset thereafter as you return to your camp. Relax as you wait for dinner and an overnight stay as above.
Day 3: Transfer Udzungwa Mountain National Park
After breakfast drive to Udzungwa with your picnic lunch. You will get to enjoy the scenic views on the drive. Dinner and overnight at your selected hotel.
The Udzungwa Mountain National Park, which is 1990 square kilometers. Is the first terrestrial National park in Tanzania. It is well known for its biologically diverse forest, with approximately 20 – 30% out of 200 animals and plant species that grow here not found anywhere in the world. Still it is really beautiful place for hiking. It is one of the top ten forests for bird conservation in Africa.
Wildlife: Variety of animal species can be found here, including water buffalo, elephants, and full of reptiles and snakes and more.
Day 4: Guided Walking Experience in Udzungwa Park
After breakfast, head out for a 4 hour guided hiking trail of Sonjo trail, the most sought after and scenic trail in Udzungwa National Park. The Sonjo trail leads to two waterfalls, taking you through a 6km Miombo vegetation hike from where you may spot rare primate species. Enjoy your lunch in the wilderness, and proceed on to return to the hotel. Relax for the rest of the afternoon. Dinner and an overnight stay as above.
Day 5: Departure Dar es Salaam with En-route Mikumi Game Drive
After breakfast, with packed lunch proceed to Dar es Salaam with en-route Mikumi National Park game drive of the park with picnic lunch. After a leisurely lunch in the park, proceed to transfer to Dar es Salaam. You shall be taken to a restaurant for dinner (own payment), after which proceed to be dropped off at the airport, bringing your Tanzania safari to an end.
