Detailed Itinerary for 12 Days Tanzania Safari

Day 1: Arrival, optional Chemka Hotsprings.

Your guide from Explore Rwanda Tours will meet you at the airport upon your arrival. He will welcome you to Tanzania and provide a quick overview of the trip. You will travel to your hotel, settle in, and relax while you wait for dinner and an overnight stay. Depending on your arrival time, you will enjoy a tour to the Chemka Hotsprings.

Day 2: Kilimanjaro Day Hike

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will go for a day trip to the Kilimanjaro region, including a 6-hour ascent and descent of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest peak. Enjoy breathtaking views of the surroundings and the mountain. Return to the foothills before continuing on to Arusha, where you will check into your hotel, relax, and enjoy supper and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Drive to Tarangire park, Game Drive

After breakfast at your Arusha hotel, you will be taken to Tarangire National Park, located in northern Tanzania. Tarangire National Park is famed for its vast elephant populations and old baobab trees.
You will eat lunch and then go on an afternoon game drive throughout Tarangire National Park. During your game drive around the national park, you will look for animal species such as gazelles, impalas, zebras, and waterbucks, among others, as well as the many bird species that the park is known for. You will enjoy watching the sunset in the wildness of the national park, and your guide will transport you to your lodge for supper and overnight stay.

Day 4: Full Day in Tarangire National Park with a Guided Walking Safari

Following breakfast at the lodge, you will have a full day at Tarangire National Park. Look for a variety of species in the park, including giraffes, zebras, elephant herds, and much more. Enjoy your lunch box with a picnic and another game drive as you exit the park. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge, as described above.

Day 5: Drive to Serengeti National Park, Game Drive

Following breakfast at your lodge, your guide will take you to the Serengeti National Park, which is also in northern Tanzania. During your safari in the national park, you will have the opportunity to see the big five (elephants, lions, leopards, rhinos, and buffalos). The lodge serves dinner and provides an overnight stay.

Day 6: Full Day Serengeti with Hot Air Balloon

Wake up to an early morning hot air balloon flight over the Serengeti Plains and experience everything, including one of the most spectacular sunrises you’ve ever seen. Enjoy a bush breakfast before meeting your safari guide for additional wild game watching and a packed lunch for a full-day Serengeti National Park safari adventure.

Take a morning game drive across Serengeti National Park, looking for elephant herds in the savannah plains and other animal species such as lion prides. You will have lunch before continuing your animal adventures in the national park.

Later in the evening, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Full day in Serengeti National Park

Breakfast will be served at your accommodation in Serengeti National Park as you ready for your morning wildlife drive. You will also appreciate witnessing a range of animal species that are particularly active in the morning and may be observed grazing throughout the national park.
After your morning game drive, you will have lunch and then go on another game drive to look for wildlife species such as elephants, giraffes, cheetahs, impalas, gazelles, buffalos, elands, antelopes, zebras, wildebeests, and hippos. You will have dinner and stay overnight at the resort.

Day 8: Transfer to Ngorongoro with en-route Olduvai Gorge Stop, Crater Rim Walk

Drive Time: 145km, Approx. 3.5 hours.

After breakfast at your lodge in Serengeti National Park, you will check out and travel on an en route game drive to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You will explore Ol Duvai Gorge, an archaeological site where Dr. Mary and Louis Leakey uncovered evidence of early man and human evolution. As you drive to your resort, you can have lunch and watch wildlife. Check in, relax while you wait for supper, and then spend overnight at your designated resort.

Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater Drive, Maasai Bomas Visit

After an early breakfast at the lodge, you will descend to the Ngorongoro Crater to witness many sites, including Lake Magadi, which is located in the crater’s middle. As you visit the Ngorongoro Crater, you will notice a large number of flamingos around Lake Magadi’s shoreline, as well as other bird species. Elephants, buffalos, rhinos, zebras, waterbucks, antelopes, hyenas, gazelles, and kudus, as well as predators like as lions, leopards, and cheetahs, may all be seen in the crater.

The Ngorongoro Crater is home to all of the big five animals; keep an eye out for them while on a game drive around the world’s biggest crater. As you visit the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, you will also be treated to stunning vistas of the surrounding landscape.
After your picnic lunch, join a Maasai Bomas tour to meet and engage with the native Maasai people who still live amid the animals!
You will then go to your lodge, check in, and relax while you wait for supper and an overnight stay, as described above.

Day 10: Drive to Lake Manyara National Park, Walking Safari

After breakfast at your lodge, your guide will take you to Lake Manyara National Park, which is home to tree climbing lions, elephants, and other animal species.

You will also go on a game drive around Lake Manyara National Park and appreciate the park’s unique landscapes. You will also see antelopes, gazelles, buffalos, leopards, waterbucks, monkeys, baboons, and several bird species in the national park.

After your game drive, you’ll have lunch and then go on one of the most fantastic activities: a guided walking safari. A walking safari at Lake Manyara provides close encounters with nature and wildlife such as zebras, antelopes, and giraffes, among others. The walking safari is led by park staff who are familiar with the area.
Return to the resort to unwind while you wait for supper and an overnight stay.
Day 11: Visit Mto wa Mbu,  Night Game Drive

Today, you will get to explore the cultural variety of Mto wa Mbu by visiting artisan stores and interacting with the residents. Later, have a nocturnal game drive at Lake Manyara National Park. Meals and overnight accommodations are as described above.

Day 12: Departure

You will have breakfast at the lodge and check out thereafter. Your guide will drive you to Arusha and drop you off at the airport in time to catch your outbound flight, which will mark the end of your safari.
