Detailed Itinerary for 5 Days Bwindi Gorillas and Akagera Safari
Day 1: City tour & Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest
You will be picked from your hotel in Kigali and go for a tour of the remarkable Kigali city – visiting Kimironko local market where you will interact with the locals and try a bargain on the local produce and the genocide memorial site where you will learn more about the terrible 1994 genocide. Have lunch and transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest national park through Cyanika boarder and arriving Bwindi – the home of Uganda gorillas in the evening. Dinner and overnight at your designated lodge.
Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest & Back to Kigali
You will enjoy early morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and bottled drinking water for briefing by the park ranger guides at 7:00am. After briefing, you will start your gorilla trekking journey accompanied by the ranger guides in search of the mountain gorillas; this takes 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. After the trek, you will enjoy your lunch packs and transfer back to Kigali arriving in the evening. Drop off at your hotel in Kigali for dinner and overnight stay at your lodge or hotel.
Day 3: Transfer to Akagera National Park and Afternoon Boat Cruise
You will be met by your driver guide at your agreed location in Kigali to transfer to Akagera National Park where you will arrive in time to embark on the late afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see game like hippopotamuses, Crocodiles and many bird species that live around the lake and the surrounding swamps. Dinner and overnight at your preferred lodge.
Day 4: Full Day Game Drive in Akagera
On the fourth day of your 5 Days Bwindi Gorillas and Akagera Safari, breakfast will be served at your lodge. You will then meet up with your driver guide and head out for a full day game drive in the northern sector of the park; with only a break for lunch at your lodge. Look out for wildlife such as lions, zebras, buffalos, leopards, giraffes, elephants, rhinos and so many more.
Later retire back to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: Morning Game Drive and Drive Back to Kigali
Rise up early and go for a game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals which rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill. After the game drive, return to connect with your driver guide to embark on your transfer back to Kigali. If you didn’t have a city tour on the first day, you may have it on this day before you are dropped off in Kigali or at the airport as you may advise.
