Detailed Itinerary for 11 Days Kenya and Tanzania Combined Safari
Day 1: Airport pick up – Hotel
Upon arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta international airport, meet your guide/driver and transfer to your hotel in Nairobi town. Dinner and overnight stay at your selected hotels. (No activities planned, and we can relax, get over jet lab, and walk around by the hotel and eat a local meal or two.)
Day 2: Nairobi city tour
After breakfast, explore Nairobi city. Visit the David Shield rick wildlife trust (Elephant Orphanage) which is only open from 11 am t0 12 noon. Connect for lunch at the Carnivore Restaurant. Then spend your afternoon exploring more of Nairobi city, visit the Giraffe center and end your day with either walking at the city center downtown and government buildings or drive around and see some attractions and architecture of the city or visit the Maasai Market or the flower market. Return to your booked hotel for dinner and overnight stay as above.
Please note that the optional city places to visit (Flower market, city drive, city walk and Maasai market) will be done depending on time available, keeping in mind the heavy traffic in Nairobi city.
Day 3: Transfer to Amboseli national park
After breakfast, meet your safari guide and transfer to Amboseli National Park. It is a 5-6 hours’ drive from Nairobi arriving in time for lunch.
Explore the park on an afternoon/evening game drive to large herds of elephants, as well as other game animals like zebras, giraffes and many more with Mount Kilimanjaro providing a beautiful background (coming out of the clouds during sunset and sunrise). Observe the hill offering spectacular 360 degrees views throughout the park with its arid areas, marshes, and lakes, and on a clear day Mount Kilimanjaro. In the evening, the clouds are usually vividly giving you chances of viewing the snow-capped dome of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in Africa.
Thereafter, connect to your booked lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Full day game drives in Amboseli National Park
After breakfast, explore the park on game viewing drives in the morning and afternoon, scenery viewing, and relaxation. This park offers the opportunity to find predators either hunting or feeding on their prey. You will have your picnic lunch box while on the game drive to connect for an afternoon game drive while observing the hill offering spectacular 360 degrees’ views throughout the park with its arid areas, marshes, and lakes, and on a clear day Mount Kilimanjaro. In the evening, the clouds are usually vividly giving you chances of viewing the snow-capped dome of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in Africa. Day 5: Cross to Tanzania via Namanga border – Arusha
After breakfast, check-out and embark on your journey to Namanga border with your packed box, which will take about 3-4hours’ drive. After about 30 minutes of clearance at the border, meet your other Tanzania guide and proceed to transfer to Arusha, which is also about 4 hours’ drive from the border. Upon arrival in Arusha, connect to your booked hotel for check-in, relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6: Full day Transfer to Tarangire national park game drive – Karatu
After breakfast, meet your safari driver for a briefing before you start your safari to transfer to Tarangire national park. It’s about 2-3 hours’ drive and upon arrival, connect for a full day game drive with your packed lunch in search of animals like the herds of Elephants as well as other wildlife species like zebras, hartebeest, elephants, waterbucks, gazelles, Oryx and others. Transfer to your booked lodge in Karatu. Dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 7: Drive to Serengeti, En-route Game Drive – Olduvai Gorge
Wake up to a sumptuous breakfast at the lodge, check out and with your packed lunch proceed on a transfer to Serengeti National Park. You shall drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and enjoy sweeping views of the highlands and wildlife en-route. You will also have a stop at Olduvai Gorge for an opportunity to learn about the historical findings of Dr Louis and Mary Leaky.
You shall enter Serengeti National Park. Enjoy your picnic lunch in the wilderness. Proceed to the camp all the while enjoying wild game viewing en-route. Check in at your camp, relax as you wait for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 8: Full day in Serengeti national park
You will have breakfast at your lodge as you prepare to engage in a morning game drive around Serengeti national park. During your morning game drive, you will search for different wildlife species like lions, leopards, cheetahs, hippos, elephants, wildebeests, antelopes, giraffes, hippos, waterbucks and many others. You will have your lunch before another game driving experience in the national park in the afternoon.
Your guide will drive you around the national park in the central part of Serengeti National park as you look out for different attractions and wildlife species in the distant plains. You will return to your lodge after this experience for dinner and overnight as above.
Optional Activity: Hot Air Balloon Tour.
Day 9: Another day game drive in Ndutu area
After breakfast, connect for a full day game drive in the south for chances of viewing the wildebeest migration with your packed lunch box.
Check-in for dinner and overnight at your lodge/camp.

Day 10: Transfer to Ngorongoro conservation area – Crater tour and Masai Community tour
After breakfast, set off to transfer to Ngorongoro conservation area, this is about 2-3 hours’ drive. Upon arrival, descend into the crater 600m down crater. It’s much famous as one of the biggest volcanic calderas in the world; it occupies over 1 million animals with all the big five including the rare black rhino present.
Other animals include Lions, leopards, cheetahs, Elephants, Buffalos, zebras and others. After your lunch break, later evening, visit the Masai Boma community for a Masai cultural tour before you connect to your booked lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 11: Transfer to Arusha – Departure
After a relaxed breakfast, check out and proceed to transfer to Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure, bringing your 11 Days Safari to an end.
