Detailed Itinerary for 4 Days Double Gorilla Trekking Safari in Uganda
Day 1: Pickup from Kigali and Transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
Following a leisurely breakfast at your hotel in Kigali, your English-speaking driver-guide will meet you for a safari briefing. Begin your adventure by visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a moving homage to the victims of the 1994 genocide. The visit lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours. After that, take a picturesque cross-border drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in southwestern Uganda. Overnight stay in the park or Kisoro town.
Day 2: First Gorilla Trek in Mgahinga and Transfer to Bwindi National Park
After an early breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a briefing. You will then commence your hike in the forest in search of your gorilla family. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park has only one gorilla family, called the Nyakagezi group. Trekking can take between 1-4 hours or more, depending on their location. Once you have located the group, you will be given an hour to spend with these majestic apes. Have your packed lunch before heading back to base and driving to your lodge.

Day 3: Second Gorilla Trek in Bwindi Forest
Following breakfast, proceed to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park ranger station for your second gorilla trek. After your briefing, you’ll go through the bamboo-covered Bwindi forest in search of a gorilla family. As previously mentioned, once identified, you’ll get an hour to view them in their natural environment. Later, head back to base, where you will find your driver guide waiting for you. Return to the lodge for some much-needed relaxation.
Day 4: Transfer Back to Kigali
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before traveling to Kigali. This lovely return trip will take you back through Rwanda’s magnificent countryside, arriving in Kigali in the early afternoon. Your safari officially ends when you are dropped off at your scheduled accommodation or airport.
